exociti: english statement

“Exociti” is a public space project in Istanbul which will be consisted of posters / graffitis / stickers mounted in the lively parts of the city. The project’s main orientation is questioning stereotypes of thinkings about Istanbul, which is a city between east and west. In Europe, many people perceive find it Istanbul as very exotic, it is the closest east to the west.

But then what comes from the east gets represented as problems and disorder to them. So phantasies about exoticism and prejudices of discrimination are produced by this same thinking.

Moving from that framework, “Exociti” is envisioned to produce visual layering or layers in the city urging people to think about the prejudices about the culture they are living in, reminding them of the subconscious working behind this image of Istanbul in their minds.
